Equinix to Open its Second Sofia-based Data Center
The American company Equinix invests $19 million to open its second data centre in Sofia at the beginning of April. The project SO2 was announced during the autumn of 2018 and will be located in Druzhba district near the Sofia Airport and only a kilometre away from the first data centre of Equinix – SO1.
The international company offers cloud and network services and links 200 data centres globally. Only three years after its entry in Bulgaria, Equinix works for more than 100 local clients such as software companies, media and financial companies, hosting providers, etc. The ambition of the local team is to continue supporting Bulgarian companies in the process of digital transformation of their business, their shift to cloud technologies and global connectedness with customers and markets.
The land of the new SO2 is a property of the company and therefore, if there is an increase in the market demand, Equinix would be able to expand in the same location. SO2 will initially offer 350 equipment cabinets and plans to increase them to more than 1 100 in the next stages of development.
