On 29 June 2023, the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency (BSMEPA), in partnership with the British-Bulgarian Business Association, is organising a workshop on “How to sell in the UK?”. The event is suitable for Bulgarian manufacturers and will cover topics such as behaviour and style during trade negotiations with UK companies and why “big companies don’t know how to buy from small companies who don’t know how to sell to big companies”. The Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) has launched a new financial instrument that provides easier access to funding for the implementation of projects under European and national programmes in the absence of bridge or complementary financing. The Bank will provide investment loans of up to BGN 5M with a repayment period of up to 6 years and a grace period of up to 2 years, as well as an unsecured capital loan of up to BGN 200 000 in addition to the investment funds – both on preferential terms. The BDB will provide financing for the full cost of projects under the programmes to already approved applicants, and up to 85 per cent of the costs for those who have not yet signed their grant agreements. A total of 20 innovation vouchers for digital and green innovation/technology projects will be granted under the Euroclusters’ RE-CENTRE initiative. Small cross-sector partnerships that demonstrate new models of collaboration will be funded. Proposals will be accepted from consortia of at least two enterprises active in at least 2 of the 3 priority sectors – traditional furniture and living sector, IT sector, and green/circular economy sector. The deadline for applications is 27 June.
Between 10-13 October, the European Biotech and Pharma Partnering conference will take place in Osaka, Japan. This year’s event focuses on drug discovery, regenerative medicine, therapeutic and diagnostic tools, artificial intelligence and IoT technologies with applications in medicine and drugs, and digital therapeutics – non-pharmacological therapy systems and combinations of applications and devices. The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a co-organizer of the Forward Green (FG Expo) circular economy event. The forum will take place between June 8-10 in Thessaloniki and is aimed at companies, agencies, organizations active in adopting modern practices in the use of raw materials, construction materials, technology, energy, recycling and packaging and innovative solutions with a positive impact on the environment and increasing resilience. The European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP) has announced an open call to RE-CENTRE for financial support to small cross-sectoral partnerships that create or adopt new collaboration models incorporating digital and/or environmental innovations and/or technologies.
The project will support SMEs from the following three sectors: Traditional furniture and living sector, IT, and Green/Circular Economy. Applications are now open for the 6-month EIT Food-funded TeamUp program at the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The program aims to connect leading technologists with entrepreneurs, providing them with tools and support for joint projects in the food industry. The call is looking for experts in the food industry, as well as people with entrepreneurial skills to build a successful startup in the sector. TeamUp includes team-matching process between industry professionals and entrepreneurs, training sessions and expert support, €2000 per team to develop their idea and business model. The Research and Development Association at Sofia Tech Park has been approved as an Impact builder for the implementation of the EU-funded Project X2.0. The goal of the project is to increase the number of high-tech startups in the European Union by providing individualized, industry-oriented 6-month growth programs that act as a catalyst for the development of go-to-market-ready applications and technological solutions in 5 key impact areas: Manufacturing & Circular Economy, AgriTech, HealthTech & BioTech, Smart Cities and Sustainability, and Data & A.I. The Innovation Academy of the innovative company Innovation Starter has opened applications for its tenth edition. The hackathon is the largest public-private partnership in the country between organizations from the private, academic, public, and NGO sectors and is dedicated to the development of entrepreneurial skills among students. Participants in Innovation Academy 2023 will be able to shape their first business projects and develop prototypes. The project is divided into three main modules: mentoring, lectures, and pitching of the ideas at a final competition, which this year will be held on June 2nd and 3rd. Startup companies in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare can apply for the Labena Ventures accelerator. The project is initiated by the Slovenian pharmaceutical company Labena and aims to promote innovation and the entrepreneurial ecosystem in CEE in the specified areas. Young companies and individual participants can gain access to enterprises, investors, and VC funds. Universities and R&D centers can also apply for the accelerator. Part of the accelerator is an intensive programme for business development and presentation skills, strategic positioning of an idea or project in the market, and more. Participants will work closely with almost 80 certified mentors from around the world, experts in areas such as business, finance and biotechnology, and investors who will help them further develop their ideas and attract funding.
Until March 26 companies can apply for participation in the Eastern Europe 2023 accelerator, organized by the Founder Institute – one of the largest accelerators for start-up projects in the world, active in over 200 cities and with a network of over 25,000 mentors. The programme will start on April 4 and will last for 14 weeks with a workload of 15-25 hours per week. Eastern Europe 2023 aims to help young founders successfully validate their business model, build an MVP, gain first customers and revenue, refine their pitch, and meet experts and investors. The Ministry of Innovation and Growth launched a third procedure under the Recovery and Sustainability Plan with a total budget of BGN 200 million. The funds are available for companies that want to build their own new RES installations in combination with batteries for local energy storage. Companies can receive between BGN 75,000 and BGN 1 million. There is no limitation in the sector of activity, but the number of employees should be up to
