At the invitation of Vienna Municipality and together with other European \u0435xperts,\u00a0 representatives of civil society and business our team took part in a discussion about what European city councils will look like in 2030. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Chief Executive, Mr. Vladimir Danailov presented the challenges, the experience gained and the results so far from Sofia\u2019s participation in the European Commission\u2019s Digital Cities Challenge <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Program. He also took part in a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">panel discussion on the topic <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">E-government and European Municipalities<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The focus of the two-day conference was the issues arising from the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in urban services, eGovernment opportunities for city services, open data, and how digitalization could be used for society and citizens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">All about Digital Transformation of Sofia: V. Danailov &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/InvestSofia?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@InvestSofia<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ECC?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ECC<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Vienna?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Vienna<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/digitalization?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#digitalization<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TLHifKbG5q\">pic.twitter.com\/TLHifKbG5q<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; International Offices &#8211; Sofia (@viennaofficeSOF) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/viennaofficeSOF\/status\/1141312554318405632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 19, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the first day of the conference, AI was examined as a determining factor for the future of city administrations and the tension between humans and technical innovations, social criteria, and democratic processes. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vienna presented two municipal initiatives &#8211; the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.informatik.tuwien.ac.at\/dighum\/manifesto\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vienna Manifesto on Digital Humanism<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the program<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiengibtraum.at\/site\/en\/about-the-project\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWien gibt Raum\u201d<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(\u201cVienna provides space\u201d) &#8211; a digital \u201cOne-Stop-Shop\u201d that makes proceedings for the use of public space easier and faster for both citizens and enterprises.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The conference participants agreed that society must retain ultimate control over the development of AI and that human-centric rules for the data collection are needed. Europe could take on a pioneering role in this regard by its data protection basic regulation (DSGVO), for example in comparison with China or the USA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Digitalisation conference in Vienna was part of the annual series of events \u2013 the European conferences of cities (ECC), that are organised by Eurocomm PR on behalf of the city of Vienna. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the events, Vienna welcomes experts from the urban institutions from Central and Southeastern Europe.
