The index measures the ability of each country to provide prosperity for its citizens. The score of each country is based on 12 main categories, including general macroeconomic stability, institutions, labor market, financial system, infrastructure, business dynamics, application of new technologies, innovation capacity, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bulgaria\u2019s score<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stands close to that of Romania, Uruguay and Bahrain, slightly improving compared to last year. In the overall ranking<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> however, the country retains the same position as in 2017, as some of the countries are improving faster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keeping its last year position, Bulgaria is ranked as the most competitive economy <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Balkans, outpacing Romania (52<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> position), Greece (57<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Turkey (61<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Serbia (65<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Montenegro (71<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Albania (76<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Macedonia (84<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bosnia <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Herzegovina (91<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The upward trend in our country was driven by digital services. In \u201cImplementation of Information and Communication Technologies\u201d Bulgaria is positioned 30<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The next highest score for our country is in \u201cCapacity for Innovation\u201d, where Bulgaria is 48<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We also ranked high in \u201cLabor Market\u201d \u2013 50<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and \u201cMacroeconomic Stability\u201d \u2013 52<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Furthermore, Bulgaria takes a high position in terms of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cInfrastructure\u201d criterion \u2013 58<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bulgaria\u2019s score in \u201cInstitutions\u201d and \u201cHealth\u201d remained lower, ranking 70th for both indicators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lowest are the indicators for \u201cOrganized crime\u201d and \u201cProtection of property rights\u201d, \u201cEffectiveness of the judicial system\u201d, \u201cEasy hiring of skilled workforce\u201d, &#8220;Extent of staff training&#8221; and &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skills of the future workforce<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, the ranking includes 140 countries <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from all<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> around the world. The three most competitive countries are the United States with 85.6 points, Singapore with 83.5 and Germany with 82.8.
