Two of them are positioned in the top ten \u2013 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burgas-based refinery <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lukoil Neftochim Burgas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is ranked 5<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the Pirdop-based copper processing plant <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aurubis Bulgaria<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the biggest Bulgarian exporter, accounting for 9% of the country\u2019s exports, is placed 6<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The other Bulgarian companies in the ranking are: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEK <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(17<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lukoil Bulgaria<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (23<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rd<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kaufland Bulgaria<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (47<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CEZ Electro Bulgaria<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (72<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bulgargaz<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (91<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fuel distributor <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saksa <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(95<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Express Logistics and Distribution<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (96<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the biofuel producer <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Astra <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">B<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ioplant<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (97<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). Two of these companies, namely <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saksa <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Astra Bioplant<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, are included for the first time in the top 100 companies <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the 11<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> edition of SEE Top 100. It ranks companies by revenue and profits for the past financial year and covers the countries of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro. In order to rank the top 100 companies, the analysis compares the financial results of 2 900 organizations. This year, Bulgaria increased the number of companies included in the ranking by one, compared to 2016, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when there wer<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e nine. In 2014 and 2015, the companies in the ranking were 11.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14289 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/investsofia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SEE-Top-100-SeeNews-breakdown-by-industry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"709\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/investsofia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SEE-Top-100-SeeNews-breakdown-by-industry.jpg 709w, https:\/\/investsofia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SEE-Top-100-SeeNews-breakdown-by-industry-300x102.jpg 300w, https:\/\/investsofia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SEE-Top-100-SeeNews-breakdown-by-industry-600x205.jpg 600w, https:\/\/investsofia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SEE-Top-100-SeeNews-breakdown-by-industry-260x89.jpg 260w, https:\/\/investsofia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SEE-Top-100-SeeNews-breakdown-by-industry-50x17.jpg 50w, https:\/\/investsofia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/SEE-Top-100-SeeNews-breakdown-by-industry-150x51.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 100vw, 709px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The overall conclusion from this year\u2019s ranking is that the past financial year <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a record-breaking success for the region. The increased revenue and profit of companies were on the back of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">growing domestic consumption, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">strong investment interest in the region and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">favorable international environment. All economies in the region showed an average growth of 4% in 2017 (compared to 3.5% a year earlier) &#8211; a growth that outstripped the average GDP growth rate in the European Union. The total revenue of the 100 companies included in the ranking rose by 12.5% to EUR 113.9 billion, compared to 2016. Profit grew even higher, by 22% to EUR 4.9 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bulgarian and other companies in the energy, fuel, automotive, wholesale and retail sectors dominate the ranking. Representatives of the IT sector are not included in the 2017 edition, although they are a major driver for many of the economies in the region, and tech companies are involved in the largest mergers and acquisitions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The automotive industry is among the fastest growing industries in Southeast Europe. The sector is a leader in terms of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">foreign investment attraction<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, output volume, job creation and contribution to GDP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to data of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, vehicle production in the region grew by 14% in 2017, with an average growth rate of 3.7% <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for Europe<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and 1.9% globally. Car sales increased by 9.7%, with an annual European average growth of 3.1% and 2.4% globally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The largest regional players in the automotive sector are Romania (where Dacia and Ford have plants), Slovenia and Serbia. In Bulgaria, the sector is represented by 170 companies for automotive components, more than 40 000 employed in the sector and 4% of GDP.
