The final budget will be announced in 2019, but the main trend is clear &#8211; a 5% cut in the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy allocation, and at the same time a planned increase in a number of items. The budget for the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Erasmus+<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> program for educational exchange will be doubled. The funds spent on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">defence of borders and dealing with migration and refugees will be raised from EUR 12.4 billion to EUR 33 billion. The defence fund will go up 22 times from EUR 0.6 billion to nearly EUR 13 billion. An increase of 64% <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is also envisaged for<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the funds for research, innovation and digitization. MEDIA is the EU&#8217;s program supporting the European film and audiovisual industry <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by providing<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> new ways to distribute and promote legitimate online content, to use data and automated content recommendation instruments, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by supporting<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> animation sector development, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Connecting Europe Facility<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is planned to be boosted by EUR 1 to 3 billion for digital infrastructure, which will help reduce the existing disparities between <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">urban and rural areas. Currently, the connectivity in cities is 76% and under 40% in rural areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The budget for research and innovation is the largest one so far, with a strong focus on digital transformation. The increase <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the budget for digitization<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in this direction is over EUR 2.5 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital Europe Program<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is new to the EU and will have an independent budget of EUR 9 million. The program\u2019s priorities are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Cybersecurity will focus on the protection of critical infrastructure and cybersecurity competence centers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Investing in supercomputers is another priority aiming at regaining the leadership of Europe and making the European supercomputer a reality by 2023. Bulgaria is the regional leader in this topic<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Investment in artificial intelligence is a priority and it is expected to lead to some 30% added value in the European economy<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Digital skills for advanced <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">users <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are also a top priority because of the shortage of nearly 350 000 well-trained digital specialists in Europe as well as the lack of digital skills of the citizens<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The fifth priority area is the investment in the digitization of the public administration<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the occasion of the presentation of the budget, EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel commented on her official Facebook profile: \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are sending a clear signal that Europe wants to modernize traditional policies such as cohesion and agriculture, but also has the courage to invest in new areas that no Member State can manage independently, such as the digital field. With this new program, Europe sends a strong signal that digitization is a long-term priority for us, based on the interests of citizens and businesses. We hereby say that we want Europe to regain the world\u2019s leading position.
